Good to see all car washers back...
Carwashing is the reason that keeps everyone busy and there is only me to comment on Qatarliving ...
Mozart: your words made me smile; that's exactly what it is buddy; washing your car or even doing laundry can indeed be therapeutic and relaxing. Glad you see it that way and I'm even more hopeful now that you'll find all our suggestions helpful and adding to your washing enjoyment. Yalla get washing now :-)
Learnt a lot of new things and pleasantly happy to know people around are more than interested in helping. Car washing, like gardening, for some can be self help therapy to beat stress of daily routine. undoubtedly nothing can replace professional service once or twice a month but just for other times it can be real fun and stress buster. thanks everyone.
Mozart: another way is to just throw in all the clean microfiber towels (just buy like 10 towels buddy its a one time cost) into a bucket full of water and go to the car.. What you'll be doing now is getting rid of your towels one by one, as they get dirty. You'll not put a dirty towel back in the bucket which will stay clean with the water and the clean towels. You'll just fold each towel in half so you have 4 clean sides to work with and you keep flipping to a clean side as one gets dirty...put aside each dirty towel, take a new one from the bucket and keep going around the car until you're done. No spills on the ground, no dirt transfer from bucket to paint and then just wash all the towels in mild liquid soap in the machine and you're ready for next time... Sorry if I'm too interested in the topic and boring you guys lol...i love cars and you guys will be amazed at YouTube videos of what real proper car detailing and washing looks like.
I wish i had the money to set up my own detail shop because honestly, as much as i love qatar, we are way behind other countries when it comes to car care. We have the all the hot cars here but not many proper trained car wash and detail shops to care for them. To illustrate, the staff at a popular car detailing shop here didn't even know nor had heard about a claybar. It is the first step and the first basic decontamination tool needed for a professional correction, polish and wax package on a car's paintjob. They were charging 1500-2000 for a polish and wax but didn't have a claybar in their kit and didn't know about it either. Being a car guy in qatar can be most wonderful at times and most frustrating at others. Sorry sorry sorry for the long comments but I'll talk all day about cars so please don't hate me lol :-)
Accha and Mozart: buddy, actually with the method i suggested, the chamois leather is a bad choice because its more a drying tool than a washing tool; its great when you have perfect conditions like a covered washing area with no dust and with running water.
The way im washing is not the best process, not even close; but its better than a car wash in terms of damage prevention. If using one bucket, then you will be reintroducing the dirt at least a bit from the bucket back on to the car. This is why i said those microfiber cloths are essential; you'll know what im saying when you see and hold it in your hands...They're super soft with deep ply microfibers that pull and hold the dirt deep inside the towel instead of dragging it along the paint and causing micro scratches and swirls, which is the case with normal cloths and chamois leathers...
You can get a pack of 5 towels for like 40-50 bucks at woqood pumps and they'll last a long time...also, never wash them with your other clothes because the lint and debris from normal cloths will get pulled into the microfibers and make it completely useless for the car. Never put them in the hot dryer and never iron them as both will melt and burn the fibers. Just wash and air dry. It's easy, it's not rocket science and its awesome :-)
there are some posters to use bucket and not hose pipes to clean your car. if you plan on having a really clean looking car then spending QR 35-50 is not economical as car would need cleaning at least once or twice a week.
If you just wish to clean your car the way Mohdata has suggested, there is something available in most supermarkets known as "chamois leather". You don't need to use soap with it. It would clean your well without spilling any water on the street. The item costs around QR 25. I guess that should be safe and meet the regulations.
I avoid going to car washes because of what they do to your car's paint in the long term and always wash my car myself... i have been told by a cop once that i shouldn't be doing it on the street but that's all he said and went away. After that, i only made sure to not spill any water on the ground and since then, I've never had a problem and any cops that see me just keep driving. You should buy some good microfiber car cloths from woqood/sidra. It'll transform the way you clean your car... Just dip in your bucket, wring it the excess water back into your bucket and just wipe your car panel by panel with the damp microfiber. Make sure to frequently flip the towel to a clean side and rinse it frequently in the bucket after each panel. Unless your car is super dirty, this method won't need soap, will save you money and will save your car from the accelerated paint damage that happens with commercial or drive through car washes.. And if you get into the habit of wiping down the car every 2-3 days, you'll see that it takes you only about 15 mins to do so each time, because you're regularly cleaning and not letting dirt and grime build up and pack on to the paint... Best of luck and i hope you find this useful. It definitely worked for me and not mention the exercise you'll get and the satisfaction of doing a good job for your dear car :-)

No, you cannot. If caught, you will be fined whether you use tap water or mineral water. Until, recently there used to be advertisements in this regard visible on billboards on streets. I think the penalty is QR 300 for washing cars on roadside.
