Currently there is only one French School in Doha, the other, where my son is, Voltaire, is a Francophone Independent School, i.e., no affiliation to the Embassy or any organization in France as samabd said

SO what is the best french schools in Qatar now?

By samabd• 9 years 8 months ago.

The school's management is quite unstable

They lack vision an leadership they are unsure about program to deliver international baccalaureate or French one

They have changed director two times in the last year

Many teachers are leaving

They also left the mlf network which provides support in terms of teachers training methods organization etc

It is basically not a very promising school for the moment

My daughter started at lycee voltaire 4 years ago when the school first started. she is in CP now and doing fabulous. My son will also be in Petit section next year. The school is really good. The education level is very high comparable to lycee bonaparte. the advantage is that as the school is still small and growing the administration and teachers put in a lot of effort and attention to the general progress of the child, the class and overall school. Now the premises are not too impressive and activities are limited.

Don, bad news. I spoke to the head of primary education in the school and she didn't think twice before she said no and that's impossible next year (2006-2007).

I say don't give up and try to contact them directly through their website. Your embassy could help also. Good luck

Hi gus and thank you for your reply. yes i would really be interested if you can see if canadians are an exception since 2008 as quiet a problem for me. Anyway i am from quebec which is the french speaking part of canada, and my wife is lebanese but french educated and my kids only speak french.

I have two kids in the french school (7 & 5 years old). As far as I know they are overbooked till 2008. This year they added new classes because of the number of student.

But there are always exceptions based on nationality (french is the preferred, then the french speaking european countries). I'm not sure if Canada is on the list. I can check and let you know if you are interested.

As for being a good school, for me it is very good on Doha's standard. but the judgement depends on where you are coming from and what level is considered good for you. sometimes they do compromise on the quality of teachers because of the shortage of the qualified french speaking teachers in Doha.
