The fourth edition of Al Adaid Desert Challenge is set to take place on Friday, March 1, 2019, anticipated to be the biggest one so far of this one-day annual outdoor event.
Taking place at the ‘Inland Sea’ or ‘Khor Al Adaid’, a UNESCO recognized nature reserve in the south-east coast of Qatar from which the event derived its name, the race will kick off from the area next to Mawater Sand Dune, opposite to Sealine beach resort. Participants will then head towards the Inland Sea.
The Inland Sea hides one of the rarest sights in the world where the sea encroached deep into the heart of the desert resulting in a tranquil expanse of water that can only be reached by traversing over the beautiful golden sand dunes surrounding it.
Cyclists will have to overcome seven of these dunes as they cover a distance of 38.5 km to reach the finish line, while runners will follow a 26.7 km route that includes four dunes.
The UCI MTB Class-3 event is organized by Qatar Cyclists in association with Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) and is supported by Qatar Cycling Federation.
A finish line camp will provide an area for the participants to cool off and celebrate after the race, while a non-competitive kid’s race at the camp will ensure that no family member is left out from enjoying the event.
