Best Filipino joke, as told by a Filipino

jauntie
By jauntie

.
.
We visited The Philippines once.

Whilst there, we went into a bar in Manilla and the Filipino guy behind the bar asked whether we were Canadian, American or Australian.

We said: 'No! Ac-tu-ally, WE are British!!!'

He said: 'Oh, sorry ... but you all look the same to me'

HAHAHAHAHA

He responded in perfect English. Had he not been in his National Dress I doubt I would have known his nationality. It wasn't as if he had a huge, beaked nose or anything like that to give me a clue LOL

it all depends upon IF war is declared...Vietnam, Korea...these were police actions and although so many of our men got killed, it was not technically a war, therefore different tatics were employed.

If you look at history, as previously suggested and I will strongly suggest once again.. for the most part America has been ASKED for its help...but people tend to forget that small insignificant fact.

As far as Iraq..I have to say I have never been in support of that war...I do support the troops however because they are following their orders.

As far as an Englishman being in power in the Independence War...yes he was, and so were all the other pre-Americans...English that is...but England pushed them too hard and with no mercy...and they rebelled.

reminds me of the mental image i have of your country...they had a stamp that said "mine" on it and kept hitting it all over the world...mine, mine, mine, mine...then had to give it all back when they used up all the resources and people of that country..

as far as the numbers...yep...we did have more but they were not trained as per my earlier post...its like pitting poodles against pitbulls..but still we won the war...why? because we wanted OUT from under your thumb because your country was mistreating our citizens. As far as help...your country asked the Germans for help during this war...funny thing tho..they turned on you too, didn't they?

You can look at numbers, but our milita were mostly farmers, untrained in war tactics, facing a very well trained British military...especially check out the last paragraph.

Armies, militias, and mercenaries

Colonists were divided over which side to support in the war; in some areas, the struggle was a civil war. The Revolutionaries (also known as Americans or Patriots) had the active support of about 40 to 45 percent of the colonial population. About 15 to 20 percent of the population supported the British Crown during the war, and were known as Loyalists (or Tories). Loyalists fielded perhaps 50,000 men during the war years in support of the British Empire. After the war, some 70,000 Loyalists departed the United States, most going to Canada, Great Britain, or to British colonies in the Caribbean.

When the war began, the Americans did not have a regular army (also known as a "standing army"). Each colony had traditionally provided for its own defenses through the use of local militia. Militiamen served for only a few weeks or months at a time, were reluctant to go very far from home, and were thus generally unavailable for extended operations. Militia lacked the training and discipline of regular soldiers, but were occasionally effective against regular troops. American militia were sometimes adept at partisan warfare, and were particularly effective at suppressing Loyalist activity when British regulars were not in the area.

Seeking to coordinate military efforts, the Continental Congress established (on paper) a regular army—the Continental Army—in June 1775, and appointed George Washington as commander-in-chief. The development of the Continental Army was always a work in progress, and Washington reluctantly augmented the regular troops with militia throughout the war. Although as many as 250,000 men may have served as regulars or as militiamen for the Revolutionary cause in the eight years of the war, there were never more than 90,000 total men under arms for the Americans in any given year. Armies in North America were small by European standards of the era; the greatest number of men that Washington personally commanded in the field at any one time was fewer than 17,000.

Early in 1775, the British Army consisted of about 36,000 men worldwide, but wartime recruitment steadily increased this number. Additionally, over the course of the war the British hired about 30,000 German mercenaries, popularly known in the colonies as "Hessians" because many of them came from Hesse-Kassel. Germans would make up about one-third of the British troop strength in North America. By 1779, the number of British and German troops stationed in North America was over 60,000, though these were spread from Canada to Florida.

I am hopeless when it comes to cars. One time a chap in a pub was quizzing me on sports cars and their capabilities and petrol consumption, gear changes etc etc. I looked at him blankly. He said: Oh, sorry. I just assumed you'd know because you drive one.

I know what you meant..I am just being a bit silly here..just for arguement's sake.

Actually I like the look and feel of large cars, but HATE parking them!! I call them landboats. That's why I drive what I do(ok the FJ is a larger car but the turning radius is awesome!!) and as far as American cars being reliable...they aren't. I was very serious about them being built to break down. There have been many articles on that...sadly enough. Same with the seatbelt issue. Ford KNEW that putting seatbelts in would save lives, but it cost more to redesign the car and facilities, than it would to pay off lawsuits for wrongful deaths, so they opted for the cheapest route..until the government stepped in. Same with the gas tank design on some cars...really a shame what greed will do to some people.

With the F150...it wouldn't surprise me to see that number NOT reduce, even with the recession...for the most part, the people who use those trucks have a need for the power for their work or livelihood. I would venture a guess that every other truck is purchased in either Texas or Louisana...

with the cars..yes historically we have made big cars...but to be honest with you, I would rather have a german car due to the reliablility and style of it instead of an American one...they are made to break down too fast!

As far as the Ford F150...of all the cars you listed..this one is the one that actually REQUIRES a huge engine for all the work it does on the ranches and farms...plus they are the truck of choice for pulling boats!! I know in some of the nation, people just buy trucks to look cool...but in Texas, trucks are a necessity and are actually USED to work instead of being bought just for looks.

Osman Yissah....You are a bit correct but not really on the American men.

ANY person can be imposing in a bad way, not just Americans...American men are very self assured and if that's called imposing, then so be it. Most do not do it in an arrogant way, just differently than over here. The firm handshake is part of our culture, a sign of respect. If you give a limp handshake, that infers to us that you are wishywashy in your attitude or opinions. Our accent are due to the huge area that America covers...its like the different accents even within the Middle East...someone opens their mouth and you know exactly where they are from. As far as liking things big...can't stereotype on that one as our people have cars of all sizes and performance.

As far as cars...Our cars are getting more and more economical due to the impact upon the environment. That's why we have created hybrid cars.

Now..that being said..I don't fit your stereotypical American...I drive a BMW Z4 here in Texas, but a FJ in Doha...so does that make me a halfbreed???

really quite clever! It makes sense that a Nation's car manufacturer would build cars to suit their particular Nation's requirements/likes.

Although if we are judging people's characteristics by their CHOICE of car then I think that's a different matter. In that case then I'm not sure that I would qualify as a typical arrogant Brit.

Well, OK, I admit to owning an Austin Healey Sprite in my late teens, which is probably a BIT of an arrogant Brit's car. Ooops, and I forgot about the MGB GT in my mid-twenties (I seem to be proving Osman's point here!) :D

But latterly I have bought a Fiat X19 and an old (1983) BMW 525. Mind you ... it was my husband who suggested those to me, having seen them in a showroom. hmmmm
