Most of the time when people ask you where you are from,they want to know if you are from Kerala or any other part of India. As most of the nationalities here know that there are lots of keralites here.so I don't think there is anything wrong if someone says he is from Kerala. Also most of the people here can make out the Indians from there appearance ,so they already know you are an Indian.
