With the mercury level rising, you’ll want to do your best to protect yourself from the worst of the heat.

The scorching sun has the potential to drain us out. It is important to be mindful of this fact to stay healthy during this hot season.

To make it that much easier, we’ve listed a few cooling foods which you can add to your diet to boost your energy and avoid dehydration.

1. Watermelon

Watermelon is also known as body-healing food and has many health benefits during summer. It contains 91.45 percent water, which also fulfills your water requirement.  It also offers nutrients, vitamins, and minerals and gives a perfect cooling effect.

2. Cucumber

Cucumber is a healthy and wonderful cool summer treat. Cucumbers are 95 percent water, hence, they help to keep the body hydrated and eliminate toxins from the body.

You can slice them up and add to your salad and sandwiches or you can also make a smoothie out of it!

3. Yogurt

Yogurt comes under delicious summer food as well as gives a cooling effect to the body. The best part about yogurt is that you can mix it up with your favorite fruits for breakfast. If you crave a chilled drink in sunny afternoons, you can also make sweet or spicy buttermilk.

4. Lemon

Citrus provides a cooling effect on the body and also helps in detoxification.  A glass of lemon water offers many health benefits. You can have sweet lemon water or you can add salt to it to boost its flavor.  Lemon water is sure to keep you refreshed all day.

5. Green leafy vegetables

Green leafy vegetables give you numerous health benefits. It is very important to add them to your daily diet during the summer as it has a high amount of water content. Do not over-cook these vegetables as it might lose its water content.
