How to stay fit and healthy at home
The last few months have been difficult, to say the least. None of us could have imagined finding ourselves in a situation where we are suddenly unable to do many of the things part of our routine life.
In these unprecedented times, it is incredibly important to take care of your health. Staying fit is a great way to improve your health and uplift your mood.
Here are some simple tips on how to maintain your physical fitness and health:
Eat the right foods
Along with cutting down fat, eating healthy food at home also saves money. If you are working from home or not getting food delivered from outside, it is a great opportunity to try a new and healthy recipe.
Try to avoid sweets. Even if it is just one chocolate bar, one will eventually lead to another! Instead, aim to eat more filling foods. Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits, choose brown rice over white rice, bread, and pasta made from whole grains instead of refined grains.
When you are doing grocery shopping, stock up your kitchen with healthy food.
Exercise, make it a habit
Perform physical activity for 30 minutes at least every day in an air-conditioned location. If you were a regular at the gym, we can understand that the current times might be particularly challenging for you. While being in a gym environment certainly helps keep you motivated, get yourself involved in something entirely new while being home.
If you are taking online classes or working from home, walk around while you read and answer your emails, while answering text messages, talking over the phone, and browsing social media platforms. You can also set an alarm on your laptop or phone for short activity breaks.
Reduce physical inactivity at home such as sitting in front of the television or computer for a long time. Engage in household chores.
Keep track of calories
Keeping track of your calorie intake will help you make better choices. You become accountable to yourself, and you can track your progress better. Simply noting down your food choices can help you eat smarter. For example, it is better to eat a healthy bowl of a salad than to waste your calories first thing in the morning on a dessert!
Stick to your plan! The key to being in shape is to set goals and keep a positive mindset. To boost up your motivation, you could also get your friends, family, or colleagues to join you. Their enthusiasm can be very motivating.
Take care of your mental health
The situation may be overwhelming, for some, but do not forget to take care of your mental health by doing the things that help you relax.
Get enough sleep
It is important to get enough sleep to recharge your batteries. Six to eight hours of sleep is usually sufficient. If you feel tired during the day, take a short nap of no more than thirty minutes.
