13th edition of Katara Traditional Dhow Festival set to begin on Tuesday
Over the years, the annual Katara Traditional Dhow Festival — celebrating the country’s rich maritime history and love for the ocean — has grown in stature and prestige.
The 13th edition of the festival will kick off today at 3.30pm at Katara Beach and will continue until December 2.
This year, the festival will feature a rich and diverse program and will see the participation of 12 countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Palestine, Portugal, Iran, Tanzania, and India.

In addition to various dhow boats on display, the event will feature different artistic and cultural activities.
There will also be traditional marine competitions — rowing and sailing — that will be held at Katara Beach No. 2. While the traditional rowing event will take place on December 1 at 3.30pm, the traditional sailing competition will be on December 2.
The festival will feature several marine museums filled with rare collectibles that paint a vivid picture for visitors of life in Qatar in the era of pearl diving.
Several handicraft shops will also display their wares at Katara Beach, where an elite group of skilled craftsmen will practice their crafts.
Numerous workshops and entertainment activities for children will also be a part of the festival.
