2024 National Sport Day to feature activities by around 250 entities

Qatar is one of few countries worldwide with a dedicated day for sports and fitness-related activities.

Held on the second Tuesday of every February, this year’s event will fall on the 13th. The Organising Committee of the National Sport Day (NSD) announced that the event will be held under the slogan ‘The Choice Is Yours.’

NSD Organising Committee chief Abdulrahman bin Musallam Al Dosari, also Adviser to Qatar’s Minister of Sports and Youth, said the day raised awareness of the importance of sports and physical activities in individuals and society.

“The ministry is keen to spread awareness about the advantages of sports and physical activities in one’s life. Numerous young and highly motivated Qatari athletes from a diverse range of sports have been chosen as NSD ambassadors,” said Al Dosari.

He said NSD activities were being planned to be held nationwide.

“The country will see many sports and physical activities throughout the day. We’re organizing it in such a way that as many people as possible can enjoy and be a part of the activities. Around 250 governmental and non-governmental entities will participate in NSD activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Qatar Sports for All Federation’s (QSFA) Director of Events and Activities Abdullah Al Dosari said the entity will host more than 683 diverse community events in 2024.

QSFA’s activities, spread throughout the year, are expected to promote sports and healthy living among communities.

Qatar celebrated NSD for the first time in February 2012 after the issuance of Amiri Resolution No. 80 of 2011. It stipulated that the NSD would fall each year on Tuesday of the second week of February. It will be a paid holiday during which ministries, other government entities, and public institutions organize sporting events where employees and their families can participate.
