
29 winners announced in Qatar's Central Municipal Council elections

The results of Qatar's highly anticipated Central Municipal Council (CMC) elections were revealed on Thursday, bringing forth representatives for 29 electoral districts. The tightly-contested affair saw two winners elected by acclamation, while the remaining 27 secured their seats through the voting process.

Under the leadership of Major-General Majed Ibrahim Al Khulaifi, Chairman of the CMC elections' Supervisory Committee, the names of the 29 victors were announced. Majed Ibrahim Al Khulaifi, who also serves as the Director of the Elections Department within Qatar's Ministry of Interior, highlighted that 34,527 citizens registered as voters, with a turnout of approximately 40.7% on election day. A total of 102 candidates, including four women, participated in the CMC elections.

Voting took place from 8 am to 5 pm in 27 out of the 29 constituencies, while two candidates from the 27th and 28th constituencies were elected unopposed.
The newly elected representatives expressed their commitment to serving their constituencies and working towards enhancing the quality of services.
“I’ll work to develop infrastructure while focusing on maintaining mosques and streets and developing the quality of education in my constituency,” said Waleed Mohammed Abdul Rahim Mohammed Al Emadi, the victor from Electoral District 8.
Meanwhile, Hamad Khaled Khalifa Al Kubaisi, who won Electoral District 18, had different priorities.
“I’d like to improve the quality of commercial activities and streets in my constituency. I'll also work hard to address various civic woes in my constituency,” he said.

The supervisory committee extended its gratitude to the Ministry of Interior, Supreme Judiciary Council, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Municipality, and various media organizations for their contributions to the smooth conduct of the elections. They also expressed their appreciation to the voters, candidates, and all those involved in the electoral process, both in official and voluntary capacities.
