36th Doha Theatrical Festival begins on May 25

The highly anticipated 36th edition of the Doha Theatrical Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture, is set to commence this Saturday and will continue until June 04, 2024 at the prestigious U VENUE Theater for the first time! The festival promises a vibrant lineup of events and performances. 

Organized by the Theater Affairs Center in collaboration with the Qatar Events Center, the festival boasts a rich array of offerings, including 10 compelling theatrical productions. Among these, three will be presented by esteemed Qatari national theatre groups (Qatar, Doha, and Al-Watan), and 7 performances by private artistic production companies. The grand finale will illuminate various aspects of Qatari theatrical history. 

With an elaborate agenda, the festival aims to revive the theatrical landscape. It seeks to achieve this by showcasing exceptional performances that surround diverse through intellectual and artistic seminars; and supporting and encouraging distinguished local theatre experiences.

Moreover, the festival sets out to connect with and make stronger bonds among artists across different theatrical domains and cultivate a dedicated community of theatre enthusiasts. The Ministry of Culture encourages these objectives in a recent statement, emphasizing the festival's commitment to promoting excellence and innovation in the theatrical arena. 

The festival will host ten applied seminars, featuring prominent critics and specialists who will assess the showcased plays in post-performance discussions. The final day of the event will witness a special tribute to Qatari artists who have made significant contributions to the theatrical realm, including the late Abdullah Ahmed and distinguished artist Hadya Saeed.
