All bibliophiles head to the 33rd Doha International Book Fair
May 09, 2024 marks the inauguration of the highly anticipated Doha International Book Fair at the esteemed Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), showing the celebration of intellect under the theme "Knowledge Builds Civilizations"
With an impressive roster of over 515 publishing houses from 42 countries, this year's fair stands as a beacon of international collaboration, boasting the largest global participation in its recorded history. Notably, the Sultanate of Oman assumes the prestigious role of quest of honour, spotlighting its rich cultural legacy through a dedicated pavilion.
Highlighting Qatar's unwavering dedication to fostering literary and creative endeavours, the fair proudly showcases a vibrant array of Qatari publishing houses, including esteemed names such as Rosa Publishing House, Dar Al Watad, QU Press, Katara Publishing House, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press), Dar Al Sharq, Dar Al Thaqafa, Dar Napjah, and Dar Nawa, in addition to Lusail University, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, and Qatar Museums.
Moreover, the book fair promises a distinguished assembly of regional, Arab, and international participants with notable entities such as the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature of the State of Kuwait; the Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Oman; the Sharjah Book Authority; the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center; the Institute of Public Administration in Saudi Arabia; and Taibah University of Saud Arabia.
In a nod to cultural diversity and historical significance, the fair welcomes eight libraries from Egypt's renowned Souq El Azbakeya, known for its treasure trove of rare and antique books, echoing the organizer's commitment to showcasing global heritage.
Director of the Doha International Book Fair, Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, stated that the fair's innovative spirit, unveiling new designs that center around a captivating "Central Zone" paying homage to leaders whos contributions have shaped the realms of science, culture and knowledge.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Culture pavilion emerges as a focal point offering and extensive array of books and cutting-edge releases. Noteworthy is the inclusion of a state-of-the-art digital printing press, empowering visitors to procure on-demand copies of Ministry of Culture publications, thus fostering accessibility and engagement.
