
Ashghal given Five Star rating by European Foundation for Quality Management

Qatar's Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ came in for wide praise and recognition on Saturday when it achieved the ‘Recognised for Excellence – Five Stars’ distinction by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).
Ashghal, recognized by EFQM as an ‘Outstanding Organization,’ is the first governmental entity to achieve this recognition under the newly improved ‘EFQM 2020.’

The EFQM 2020 model builds on three themes through seven key criteria — purpose and strategic vision, institutional culture and leadership, stakeholders’ engagement, building sustainable value, performance and transformation leadership, stakeholders' impressions, and the strategic and operational performance standard.
The award recognises Ashghal’s ability to carry out project work and improve under different circumstances.

The recognition underlines Ashghal’s proficiency in continuous improvement through the development of processes and capabilities. It also acknowledges its ability to establish strategies and initiatives regarding sustainability and knowledge management.
Ashghal President Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi was proud to have received the European recognition.
“Continuing diligence with unceasing institutional planning and development helped us achieve these levels. I thank our employees for their unequivocal efforts and determination. Since excellence is a journey and not a destination, I urge Ashghal leaders and employees to continue to thrive and aim for higher excellence standards,” he said.

“For Ashghal, the ‘Journey to Excellence’ wasn't a spur-of-the-moment event, but one that evolved over the last few years,” said Ashghal’s Manager of the Planning and Quality Department Eng Jamal Sharida Al Kaabi.
Several types of training — for leaders, internal assessors, initiative teams and other staff — were developed with the aim of qualifying Ashghal’s employees for the journey to excellence.
