Baladna eyes large-scale dairy business in the Philippines
Qatari agricultural firm Baladna is seriously considering investing in a large-scale, fully integrated dairy facility in the Philippines, said the nation’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday.
Baladna, established in 2014 and currently Qatar’s largest dairy and beverage producer, supplies over 95% of the country’s fresh milk. The DTI said Philippines’ Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual spoke to Baladna officials in Doha recently.
“The Philippine government stands ready to support Baladna to realize its planned investments in the country. Through a whole-of-government approach, the DTI and the Board of Investments are ready to facilitate business-to-business meetings and introductions to potential joint venture partners for Baladna,” Pascual was quoted as saying by Business Inquirer.
Pascual added that the Department of Agriculture was actively identifying suitable locations for the proposed dairy facilities. The project is expected to align well with the Philippine government’s pursuit of self-sufficiency in food and milk production.
Pascual, during his meeting with Baladna, highlighted the substantial demand for dairy products in the Philippines, with imports currently far outweighing local production.
He promised regulatory support for labelling fresh milk, UHT (ultrahigh temperature) milk, and imported frozen milk concentrate, as covered under the Philippine National Standard.
Apart from Baladna, the DTI official also met with representatives from Qatar Cool to explore investment opportunities in the Philippines.
