With the weather in Qatar remaining surprisingly nice for this time of year, one should not miss any chances to head outdoors for a cool picnic with the family.

If you’re wondering where to go, Qatar, where futuristic skylines co-exist with rich cultural heritage, boasts massive green parks with lush vegetation.

Qatar Living takes a look at some of the country’s most iconic parks, as well as some newcomers, which will make you feel right at home.

1. ASPIRE PARK

The 88-hectare Aspire Park is simply the largest park in the country in terms of area. It has everything one would ask for in a good park — lush and well-manicured lawns, man-made hills, beautiful trees, a massive artificial lake teeming with fish, geese, and ducks, several play areas for children, and kilometres of walkways where one can walk, skate, or cycle.

How to reach:

The park is located 13km west of Doha’s city Center. There is plenty of parking available. One can drive to the park via Al Waab Street. One can also take the Doha Metro’s Red Line, alight at the Aziziya Metro Station, and walk 10 minutes to the park. With multiple shopping malls nearby, one can easily find taxis as well.

2. AL BIDDA PARK

Al Bidda Park spans 60 hectares along the Doha Corniche. It is full of rich green lawns, colourful flowers, palm and olive tree clusters, and the salty wind blowing in from the sea offers visitors a unique experience. The park is pet-friendly and offers barbecue facilities. There is an amphitheatre and plenty of options for children’s games. If you go in the morning or afternoon, shaded cabanas and natural canopies will shield you from the sun. Souq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Art are very close by.

How to reach:

The park is located in the heart of Doha city. One can ride the Green Line of the Doha Metro and alight at the Al Bidda Station. One can also drive there, and there is parking for 6,000 vehicles. Taxis are also available promptly.

3. SHERATON HOTEL PARK

The 80,000-square-meter Park is filled with greenery, vibrant lawns, ornamental flower beds, and palm trees. Located right outside the Iconic Sheraton Doha, one of the Qatar’s first-ever luxury hotels, the park has five water features which children love. There is also a 12-challenge fitness zone for the more active visitors. Though it is surrounded by urban landscape, the park offers a sense of peace and calm to every visitor.

How to reach:

Located in Doha West Bay’s downtown, the park is just a few steps away from the West Bay Metro Station (Red Line). It has ample basement parking and connects to both the Doha Corniche and Sheraton Hotel. Taxis are also plentiful.

4. KATARA GREEN HILLS

The Katara Green Hills, spread over 361,500 square meters, borders the Katara Cultural Village with vast meadows and forested hills. It is home to around 3,300 trees from around the world. A man-made hill is covered in greenery. Purple running tracks and water features add a nice touch. The hills offer panoramic views of the Katara Cultural Village and the beach.

How to reach:
Located in Doha’s cultural hub, it is a short walk from the Katara Metro Station (Red Line). Ample parking and taxi facilities are available at the park.

5. MUSEUM OF ISLAMIC ART PARK

The mammoth green park spans 30 hectares along the Arabian Gulf and houses the iconic Museum of Islamic Art. It boasts hundreds of varieties of plants and trees and several natural shaded areas, which add to its allure. The park gives out a nice coastal vibe. MIA Park features epic public art sculptures, and hosts open-air cinemas at times. There are also bike rentals and many food trucks at the park, which will delight children.

How to reach:

Located near the Doha Corniche, MIA Park is accessible via the National Museum Metro Station (Gold Line) and a short Metro Link bus ride. The place is easily accessible by taxi and there is ample parking space as well.

6. AL WAKRAH PUBLIC PARK

This not-so-well-known park is spread over 11 hectares near the Al Wakrah beachfront. Over 70 species of trees and shrubs make it attractive. Seasonal flowers arranged by colour themes create an eye-catching visual. The park provides a quiet escape from people's busy lifestyles. Kids’ play zones and walking areas for adults provide something for everyone. Al Wakrah Souq and beach are also nearby.

How to reach:

The park is near Souq Al Wakrah, 15km south of Doha. It is a 20-minute drive from Hamad International Airport via Al Wakrah Road. Al Wakrah Metro Station (Red Line) and a 10-minute taxi ride will take you to the park.

7. AIN KHALED FAMILY PARK

The compact yet lush park spans around 10 hectares in southwest Doha. It boasts expansive lawns, several large palm trees, and shaded groves. The park also has many wooden benches, which add to its charm. It is a family-friendly park, with playgrounds featuring lots of slides and other play equipment.

How to reach: 

It is located 15km from Doha’s City Center and is a 20-minute drive via Salwa Road. Ain Khaled Metro Station (Green Line) and a short taxi ride will take you to the park.

8. 5/6 PARK

The relatively new park, spread over 12 hectares in the Onaiza area, is big on charm. It has several horticultural attractions, including a plant maze that is shaped like Qatar’s map. Colorful flower beds, public art installations, a 1.4km jogging track, and a 1.1km cycling path for fitness enthusiasts make it a must-visit place.

How to reach:

It is located near the 5/6 Arch in Onaiza, a 10-minute drive from West Bay via Corniche Street. Al Qassar Metro Station (Red Line) is quite nearby, and there is ample space for parking. Taxis are also readily available.

9. AL ABRAJ PARK

At 5,800 square meters, Al Abraj Park may be small compared to other parks in this list. However, it is a little corner of calmness and serenity in the heart of Doha’s urban landscape.

Though enclosed by tall towers, the park has lush lawns, over 125 varieties of trees, and shaded pathways. The park’s design offers people an escape from their busy city lives.

How to reach:
The park is located in Al Dafna area, near the Qatar Post Office. It is a short ride away from the Doha Corniche. One can reach the park by alighting at the Al Dafna Metro Station (Red Line). Taxis are available easily.

10. UMM AL SENEEM PARK (AL RAYYAN)

Spanning 130,105 square meters, the park is almost 70% green. More than 900 trees, including local varieties, are present. The park holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest air-conditioned outdoor walking track (1,143M). It also boasts a cycling lane, three fitness zones, two age-specific playgrounds, and food kiosks.

How to reach:

The park is located in Al Rayyan and is easily accessible by car. There are ample parking spaces available at the park. If you travel by the Doha Metro, get down at the Sport City station (Green Line) and it is a short taxi ride away.

11. CRESCENT PARK

Crescent Park is one of the most popular spots in Lusail City. Spread over 275,000 square metres, it features huge green spaces and is a perfect spot for a family picnic. The park, with its distinctive crescent layout, is divided into seven sections. It has walking and jogging tracks and shaded seating spots. There are also playgrounds and recreational facilities, all set against the backdrop of Lusail’s skyline and waterfront.

How to reach:

The park is located in the heart of Lusail and is easily accessible via the Al Khor Coastal Road. The Lusail Tram (Orange Line) and Doha Metro (Red Line, Lusail QNB station) also stop near the park.

12. OXYGEN PARK (EDUCATION CITY)

Oxygen Park, located within Education City, is known for its rolling green hills and abundant tree cover. The park's nature-centric style means getting to breathe clean, sweet air. The park also has sustainability at its heart. The park has long, winding pathways, jogging and cycling tracks, and multi-purpose sports fields. There are also fitness stations and a children's play area. The park also has some distinctive ‘balloon lights’ installed.

How to reach:

Oxygen Park is accessible by road via Al Luqta Street. Doha Metro’s Education City station (Green Line) is quite nearby and a brisk walk away.

 13. AL GHARAFA AIR-CONDITIONED PARK

The 50,000-square-meter park has more than 300 trees and flowering plants, all arranged in Islamic Mashrabiya-style landscaping. The park boasts of being Qatar’s first air-conditioned park, with jogging and walking tracks cooled via tunnels with solar-powered vents. There are age-specific children’s play areas, food kiosks, and a 650M pedestrian path.

How to reach:

Located near the Al Gharafa Sports Club, it is easily accessible via the Dukhan Highway. The Doha Metro’s Al Riffa station (Green Line) is a short drive away. Taxis may be a little hard to get as it is a little off the beaten track.

 14. AL MUNTAZAH PARK (RAWDAT AL KHAIL)

The park, spread out over an area of 140,000 square metres, is one of the earliest such facilities in the country. It boasts an impressive 1,250 trees. The park was renovated and revitalised a few years ago and is still the favourite hangout place for kids who’ve grown up to become adults in Qatar. A lot of modern amenities, including two fitness areas, 1,300M pedestrian and bike paths, and two age-specific playgrounds, have been added to the park.

How to reach:

The park, located on C Ring Road in the Rawdat Al Khail area, is accessible near Muntazah and Mansoura. Doha Metro’s Al Mansoura station (Green Line) is close by and finding taxis in the neighbourhood is quite easy. 

 15. AL KHOR PARK

Al Khor Park, located around 50kms to the north of Doha, is a gem which combines greenery, wildlife, and family entertainment in equal doses. It is a perfect getaway for day trips and laid-back outings. One of the oldest public parks in Qatar, a visitor will find vast green spaces with pergolas to enjoy a picnic, playgrounds and train rides for the kids, events at the amphitheatre, plus a museum, mosque and zoo with over 300 animals. 

How to reach:

It is accessible via Al Shamal Road. While there is no direct Metro train access, regular buses from Al Ghanim Bus Station connects to Al Khor.

 16. ONAIZA PARK

The Onaiza Family Park, located in Doha’s West Bay Lagoon, is a compact, yet lush urban facility spread over 13,510 square metres. It has well-maintained green spaces, colorful seasonal flowers, and many trees. It features a 1.4km jogging track and a 1.1km bike path. There are open benches, shaded areas, and private family zones. Unlike many other parks in Doha, Onaiza Park prohibits barbecues, scooters, and large bicycles. The park's salient feature is its scenic view of Doha’s skyline.

How to reach:

It is situated near the Al Wahda Arches on Lusail Expressway. The park is easily accessible via Lusail Expressway. The Doha Metro’s Al Qassar station (Red Line) is a 5-10 minute walk away. The West Bay Qatar Energy Station connects to Onaiza 65 via metrolink services.
