In a tweet, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCCA) said 3.4 million air passengers were registered in Qatar in May 2023, compared to 2.8 million in May 2022.
Air cargo and mail signalled a slight 0.7% increase compared to May 2022. Qatar registered 193,008 tonnes of mail and cargo last month, as compared to 191,675 tonnes in May 2022.
The numbers had been even stronger in April 2023, with there being a 31% increase in air passengers and 14.3% year-on-year increase in flights (from 16.411 to 18,762).
The extension of Hayya card’s validity and introduction of newer leisure activities had helped flight movement remain resilient in the first quarter of 2023.
Earlier, February and March 2023 had seen the highest number of passenger footfall since the Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport started operations.
The country welcomed a total of 730,000 visitors in January and February 2023, marking a whopping increase of 347% from the previous year.
