Electric vehicles usher in a silent revolution in Qatar
Qatar saw an impressive automotive launch at the Katara Hall at Raffles Doha on Saturday. Mannai, its proud partner and the country’s sole distributor, unveiled BYD, an impressive New Energy Vehicle (NEV) brand.
Qatar’s Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif bin Ahmed Al Sulaiti, China’s
Ambassador to Qatar Cao Xiaolin, other ambassadors and Qatari dignitaries, and senior officials from BYD and Mannai attended the unveiling ceremony.
The event featured an impressive unveiling ceremony of the brand as well as the introduction of different car models.
The event kicked off with a visual introduction to BYD, highlighting the importance of ‘green technology’ and BYD’s commitment to the cause. The cars were then revealed, model by model.
A conversational question and answer session engaged the audience with details of the brand as well as key differences between Electric Vehicles and those with Internal Combustion Engines (ICE).
BYD’s status as the world’s biggest EV manufacturer is backed by record sales of over three million cars worldwide in 2023, more than any other brand. And it is showing no signs of slowing down.
BYD’s exports grew by 334% percent in 2023. No other brand has had such explosive growth in such a short time in the history of automobiles.
BYD is credited with perfecting three core technologies of new energy-powered vehicles — batteries, motors and electric control.
The event specifically highlighted the role of BYD’s patented BLADE BATTERY, which has proved to be a game-changer. Today, it is the industry benchmark for safety, durability, and performance with BYD giving an eight-year warranty on them.
It has successfully withstood the most rigorous of tests, particularly the Nail Penetration Test and the Drive-over Test, where a 46-ton truck was driven over it.
The event showcased five BYD models including the All-Electric, All-Wheel-Drive Dual-Motor BYD Seal (Sedan), the All-Electric BYD Atto3 (SUV) - the world’s largest-selling EV in its class, The Plug-in Hybrid EV BYD Qin Plus DM-i (Sedan), The All-Wheel Drive, All-Terrain BYD Song Plus DM-i SUV and BYD’s latest BYD Han (Sedan).
Mannai’s decision to partner with BYD comes at a key moment in time. Qatar, which is already going electric with its public transportation, is ready for mainstream passenger EVs which BYD had made a reality.
Mannai’s bold step reflects its ethos and discerning approach, not only in partnering brands that prioritise quality and reliability, but also those on the forefront of technological innovation and sustainability.
