Expo 2023 Doha getting ready to receive visitors soon
Expo 2023 Doha, the largest horticultural exhibition to ever come to the Middle East, is fast gearing up to welcome the world to Qatar’s shores.
All construction work at the venue at Al Bidda Park has already been completed and it will be ready to receive visitors by mid-September, said Expo 2023 Doha’s Director of International Coordination Department Khalid Al Sindi.
“The world gathers again in Doha as the city completes its readiness to receive more than three million visitors. Our focus will be on providing a high-quality event, at the same time making the expo site a center for information and learning and attracting global technologies,” he was quoted as saying by Arrayah newspaper.
“The expo will focus on desertification and increasing green area and agricultural land,” said Al Sindi.
The expo will run for six months, from October 2, 2023, to March 28, 2024.
He reiterated that Qatar was ready to present an exceptional Expo 2023 that would include education, sustainability and climate change and projects that will last for many years.
He said Expo 2023 Doha would confirm the country’s commitment to supporting lesser-developed nations that are disproportionately affected by the repercussions of climate change.
“We’ll ensure everyone has equal opportunities by supporting 40 pavilions for the least developed countries. We’ll give each of them an opportunity to participate in discussions and build Relationships and find opportunities to finance environmental projects,” Al Sindi said.
A delegation from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the world body behind Expo events, recently visited the expo headquarters and was pleased with the rapid progress.
Al Sindi felt the Expo 2023 Doha would also give Qatar a strong platform to highlight and discuss its achievements in the sectors of agriculture and horticulture.
“The participating countries will showcase the collective efforts in their regions aimed at addressing environmental and agricultural challenges in addition to the progress made by these countries in this regard,” he said.
With more than 70 nations, in addition to other organisations, having already confirmed participation, Al Sindi expected Expo 2023 Doha to be a big success.
“This large global presence will make the Expo an important platform for international dialogue on sustainable development,” he said.
Expo 2023 Doha recently opened its volunteer programme, giving a chance to 2,200 people to dedicate their time to the success of the event.
Earlier, organisers had come out with a detailed list of eligibility criteria, application procedures as well as expectations, for people who wished to offer their services to the event.
Numerous Qatar-based entities have been signing on to be a part of the mega event, with Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport being the latest t join hands.
Representatives of Expo 2023 Doha also signed an agreement of cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council at Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality.
