February 21: Diplomat briefing session held for upcoming DIMDEX 2022 overview and event updates
The seventh edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) 2022, is all set to take place during March 21–23 at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). The theme for this year’s event is ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community’ and is expected to witness participation from over 200 companies from 20 countries.
On February 21, the organizing committee from DIMDEX 2022 provided some key event updates along with an overview of the upcoming exhibition. The diplomat briefing session took place yesterday at Sharq Village and Spa and provided an update on the preparations.
High-level delegates and diplomats were present at the event and the DIMDEX Organizing Committee presented them with an overview of the past editions and progress made by DIMDEX. Details were shared on various aspects and attractions at the upcoming exhibition.
The upcoming exhibition will feature a display of futuristic technologies including the Visiting Warships Display at Hamad Port. The Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) will take place as well. The entire event will offer attendees a unique networking opportunity with VIPs and senior defence decision-makers such as Ministers of Defence, Chiefs of Navies & Staff, Coastguard Commanders and other defence heads at DIMDEX 2022.
Chairman of DIMDEX, Staff Brigadier (Sea) Abdulbaqi Al Ansari expressed his gratitude at the presence of ambassadors, defence and commercial attaches, and military representatives at the briefing. He quoted, “The unstinting support we received strengthens our determination to organise an edition that will be bigger and better than previous editions.”
The Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) is another pivotal event that will occur on day two of DIMDEX 2022. The briefing session touched upon MENC’s details and information on the keynote speakers. The conference theme for this year, “Resilience in the Maritime Domain—Confronting Asymmetric Threats” was also announced. The panel experts are expected to discuss a variety of topical issues relating to maritime domain and attempt to find global solutions to asymmetric threats.
MENC Conference Director, Dr. Andreas Krieg addressed the gathering and explained how this year’s MENC will have global maritime experts discuss resilience in the domain. He said, “MENC 2022 will address these challenges in an effort to achieve a higher degree of resilience of critical maritime infrastructure and waterways around the Arabian Gulf and connected waterways.”

The representatives of Qatar Armed Forces Medical Services and officials from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) were also in attendance at the briefing session and they shared the medical preparedness plan including Covid-19 protocols and safety precautions for the upcoming event. The details of hospitality and services for official VIP delegations were also shared with diplomats.
The details included insights on logistics and security for the visiting warships display to be hosted at Hamad Port. The DIMDEX Committee stated that as opposed to 2018 edition which featured nine warships only, the upcoming edition is expected to host 15–20 warships this year. There will also be a crew sports tournament to promote healthy camaraderie among the visiting crews.
DIMDEX is a highly-anticipated international maritime defence and security event and this year’s event is all set to be one of the most diverse and biggest edition ever. The occasion is a biennial one, held under the patronage of HH Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The hosting and organization is done by Qatar Armed Forces.
The last edition witnessed over 13,000 visitors and DIMDEX 2022 is expected to draw in a larger number of attendees.
