
First of its kind electronics recycling factory officially opens in Qatar

The first of its kind electronics recycling factory has officially opened in Qatar in compliance with the instructions and directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During the official opening of the factory, Sheikh Abdel-Aziz Al Thani announced that the factory will help solve the problem of global climate change and reach sustainability, environmental and economic goals, in addition to preserving the environment of the country.
Electronic garbage and electrical equipment are disposed of in accordance with international norms and criteria set by the Basel Convention - United Nations in Qatar, where European technology with excellent quality and safety requirements was utilized in the construction of this factory.
He explained that Qatar generates 36,000 tons of e-waste and electrical equipment per year, which is disposed of by dismantling and re-exporting it abroad.
With the opening of our factory in the first quarter of 2022, the country will be able to recycle 30,000 tons per year and recycle 45,000 tons per year by the end of 2024.
The plant will submit annual reports to the Basel Convention - the United Nations, detailing the quantities of e-waste electrical equipment recycled and how to dispose of these hazardous wastes, which will help a country become more environmentally friendly.
Qatar is one of the countries on the ‘Green List’, putting it in the spotlight as a country that contributes to environmental sustainability and aids in the fight against climate change.
