Five Qatari hospitals among world’s top 250 academic medical centres
Qatar’s medical facilities are among the best anywhere in the world.
If one needed more proof, five Qatari hospitals have been ranked among the world’s top 250 academic medical centres, according to a new study undertaken by Brand Finance, a renowned UK-based brand valuation consultancy.
With five hospitals in the top 250 list, Qatar has the highest representation among all GCC countries.
At 60, the National Center for Cancer Care & Research, opened in 2004 and working under the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), is the highest-ranked Qatari hospital in the top 250 list. The study gave it a brand strength of 66.2.
The Hamad General Hospital, operating under HMC since its opening in 1982, is ranked 63rd with a brand strength of 65.7.
The three other hospitals which made it to the top 250 list are Rumailah Hospital, HMC (opened in 1957), Heart Hospital, HMC (opened in 2011) and Sidra Medicine (opened in 2018).
The first-of-its-kind research study surveyed 2,500 leading healthcare professionals across the world to build a peer-driven analysis of the performance of the world’s leading academic medical centre hospitals.
Qatar’s Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari commented about the study’s significance.
“Having five Qatar hospitals ranked among the world’s top 250 academic medical centres is an incredible achievement and highlights the commitment of Qatar’s health sector to deliver excellent care to our patients, on par with the world’s very best hospitals. I congratulate the healthcare teams at all five hospitals for this remarkable accomplishment.”
“In recent years, HMC and Sidra Medicine have worked hard to implement the academic medical centre model into their hospitals, combining patient care, medical research and education to achieve the best outcomes and experience for our patients,” she added.
In 2016, HMC had become the first healthcare system in the world to have all its hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) under the Academic Medical Centre accreditation program. They were reaccredited in 2019.
Sidra Medicine was awarded the prestigious JCI Academic Medical Center accreditation in 2020.
