Qatar is actively considering the introduction of Mustaqel visas, a state-sponsored visa programme that aims to attract freelancers, highly talented individuals, and entrepreneurs from across the world to Qatar.

The programme facilitates the residency of these individuals by offering tailored visas that cater to their specific needs, thereby diversifying the workforce available to organizations in Qatar.

The new initiative is expected to allow talented individuals to work and reside in Qatar for five years, with the possibility of visa renewal.

The new residence permit is expected to offer foreign nationals the opportunity for long-term stability and investment in Qatar. It also signals the nation’s continued efforts to attract and retain talented individuals and entrepreneurs.

The new residence permit programme is expected to go online in the next few months.

Eligibility criteria
Talent category

To be eligible under the talent category, the applicant must:

* Obtain an endorsement from a relevant government authority in Qatar as a talented individual in one of 13 approved fields including arts, entertainment, sports, education, scientific research, development or innovation.

* Have a job offer or an employment contract with an employer in Qatar, or prove that they have a minimum of QAR36,500 to support themselves until their immigration process in Qatar is complete.

Entrepreneur category

To be eligible under the entrepreneur category:

* The applicant must have a business plan for an investment in Qatar, endorsed by one of Qatar’s authorized business incubators, including the Qatar Science & Technology Park or Qatar Fintech Hub.

* The investment must be worth a minimum of QAR250,000.

The proposed new programme aligns perfectly with the country’s strategy for diversifying its economy and creating a leading investor and business-friendly environment, making it a favoured destination for foreign investment and skilled talent.
