Four members of the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) have tragically lost their lives while being engaged in relief work in northern Syria and southern Turkey, following Monday’s devastating earthquake which left thousands of people dead.

The deceased were named as Nisreen Al Hussein (psychosocial support professional at Salqin Clinic in Syria), Doaa Yasser Ramadan (health system support pharmacist in Syria), Mustafa Al Daghim (mobile clinic field officer at Al Andalus Camp) and Mohannad Youssef al-Aali (driver in Azmarin town).

QRCS added that some personnel of the mission also lost their family members during the collapse of residential buildings during the quake.

QRCS Secretary-General Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, who expressed his deep sorrow, extended condolences to the affected families.

“The tragedy affected some of QRCS’ personnel working in Syria, as well as their families. To all of us, the agony is double, with the loss of dear colleagues who spared no effort to deliver humanitarian aid to the unfortunate people of Syria. Amid such an appalling tragedy, let’s pray for the deceased, the injured, the grieved nations, and all humanity,” he said.

QRCS members have been at the forefront of relief operations in Turkey and Syria, distributing hot meals, medication and other services to people at the quake-affected regions. Efforts are on to ready 30 convoys of vehicles to soon carry more aid to the area.

HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had on Monday announced all help to Turkey and Syria during the difficult time.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced it would send 10,000 mobile homes for distribution in quake-affected areas in Syria and Turkey.

If you wish to donate to the cause of relief work, you can officially do so through Qatar Charity here.
