Free online art classes offered by Qatar Museums until June 2022

If you’re running out of fun indoor activities to do, Qatar Museums(QM) has just the thing for you. QM is offering remote art classes, hosted by the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).The online art classes will be conducted on weekdays and will continue until June 2022. The lessons are titled “Dynastic Differences,” and “Materials in Islamic Art.” Both programmes will commence at 9am and go on till 12 noon.

“Dynastic Differences,” will focus on domestic and royal environments and stress upon how they became a segment of the Islamic world as well as describe their significance brought along with them from their pre-Islamic past. MIA showcases several objects from across the Islamic world. This class will lay emphasis on three lesser-known dynasties, their art, accomplishments and legacy for modern day Islamic culture.

Whereas, on “Materials in Islamic Art,” students will learn about the origin of each material at MIA’s collection along with the methods used to create the stunning masterpieces. In addition, they will have a chance to compare the art pieces at MIA with everyday objects that they are familiar with.

Metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, coins and glass are some of the materials from which the masterpieces in the museum’s collection are made up of. Each of these materials have different features or characteristics that can be noticed.

Students will produce timelines, look at geography and art, and foster an appreciation for lesser-known dynasties and their influence on our world.
