Furjan Park at Al Mishkat Street in Al Wakra nearing completion
Qatar has spared no efforts in making the country a greener space for everyone. Furjan Parks, which have come up in different parts of Qatar, has really helped with this initiative.
Qatar’s Supervisory Committee for Beautification of Roads and Public Places announced that most of the work at the upcoming Furjan Park in Al Wakra has been completed.
The park, spread over an area of 3,284SqM at Al Mishkat Street, boasts of various recreational and sports facilities and provides space for physical activities for the local population.
A report in the local media suggested that the park is expected to open later this year. The committee is working to increase space along with recreational and sanitation facilities.
The Park at Al Mishkat Street is one of three being planned at Al Wakra. It will have recreational and sports facilities, pedestrian paths, children’s play areas, fitness equipment, and seating to make it an enjoyable destination for everyone in the family.
The needs of local residents, as well as those of the elderly and people with special needs, have been taken into account while designing the park.
Around 70% of the park is filled with local trees and other plants that are adaptable to Qatar’s climate. They are expected to significantly improve air quality and bring down temperature levels and carbon emissions.
The committee has announced the setting up of 15 Furjan parks across Qatar as part of its efforts to humanise cities and change a car-centric culture to a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly culture.
Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will be in charge of building and maintaining the Furjan parks. The parks are expected to encourage families in the country to lead a healthier lifestyle.
In 2021, the Supervisory Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality, launched a strategic plan to build parks that serve tourists and visitors across the country.
The strategic plan also includes implementing small green spaces — Al Furjan Parks — that serve residents of specific neighbourhoods.
The parks are designed to be close to homes, easily reachable by pedestrians or cyclists, which encourages the people of the area to visit them regularly and spend quality time in a healthy and safe environment.
