Get ready for cooler days with the rise of the Suhail Star
The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced that the Suhail Star will rise over Qatar on Saturday, August 24, marking the beginning of the Suhail season across the GCC countries. This celestial event ushers in a period of seasonal change bringing a gradual drop in temperatures and a shift towards more moderate weather conditions.
The Suhail season is significant In both ancient and modern times, as it serves as a natural indicator for changes in climate, agricultural cycles and travel, Traditionally, it is divided into several sub-seasons, including Al-Murabba'iyah, Al-Wasmi, Al-Safri, and Al-Kanna, each bringing distinct weather patterns.
According to Dr. Bashir Marzouk, an astronomer at the Qatar Calendar House. Suhail's rise is associated with cooler nights and a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly during the night. He notes that humidity levels will also start to decrease, leading to more comfortable weather, especially during the Wasim period, which is expected in early October. The Suhail season spans 52 days, broken into four 13-day periods, with each phase bringing a gradual improvement in weather.
Renowned Saudi Meteorologist Dr. Khalid Al Zaaq also highlighted Suhail's significance, describing it as the "dividing line between the hot summer and the mild autumn". As Suhail progresses, residents can look forward to the end of intense summer heat and the arrival of more pleasant autumnal weather.
