The Syrian Medical Association’s fifth annual medical conference was held in Qatar in an atmosphere filled with joy and celebration at Syria’s recent liberation.

Many Syrian doctors, working in the public and private sectors in Qatar, attended the event. Diplomatic figures, including the Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar Dr. Mustafa Goksu, and representatives of embassies of friendly countries, attended.

The conference began with recitation of verses from the holy Quran and Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs of the Syrian revolution, and doctors and medical personnel who sacrificed their lives while performing humanitarian and medical duty under harsh

The conference also saw the announcement of the organization of an international medical conference to support the health sector in Syria. The conference, which will be held in Doha in April, will enhance the efforts to rebuild and develop Syria’s health system.

The conference also hosted two doctors who spent more than 15 years in the prisons during the Assad regime. They shared their stories of steadfastness and suffering with the attendees and were honoured for their courage and sacrifices.

Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development Affairs Dr. Mohammed Salah Ibrahim praised Qatar’s role in supporting and assisting Syrians.

“The Syrian crisis is one of the top priorities of QRCS’s humanitarian and relief work. We’ve provided humanitarian support to those affected since 2011, worth $160m, and our work has benefited 13 million people,” he said.

“The displaced people in northern Syria and the Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkiye, and Iraq benefited from this support in many sectors. The recent relief aid programme, done via air bridge run by Qatar, has also helped many people,” he added.
