Google celebrates Qatar National Day with special doodle
Google celebrated the 2023 Qatar National Day with a special Doodle on the platform’s homepage, which was an elegant tribute to the country’s rich history and heritage.
Users who opened Google’s homepage on Monday, December 18, were greeted with a fluttering Qatari flag, against the backdrop of the blue sky.
A search of the phrase ‘Qatar National Day’ on the search engine yielded results accompanied by fireworks in maroon, Qatar’s national colour.
The important day, also revered as Founder’s Day, pays homage to the pivotal year of 1878, when Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani — the esteemed architect of the State of Qatar — stepped forward to consolidate diverse tribes into a unified entity.
Google describes the atmosphere in Qatar during the national day by stating that “homes and buildings are decorated with the white and maroon national flag, just like the one in today’s Doodle.”
“The colors represent Qatar’s core values — pride, solidarity, and loyalty,” added the description on Google.
Over the years, Google Doodles have become a phenomenon that celebrates heroes, events, cultures, places and more.
The Google Doodle featuring Qatar’s flag, in line with the occasion of Qatar National Day, serves as a prime example of the distinguishable feature. Over the decades, Google has produced more than 5,000 doodles for various occasions.
