
H E Prime Minister Inaugurates HMC’s Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center in Wakra

A new pediatric unit for long-term patient care has been opened in HMC Wakra campus, making it the region’s first unit of its kind with specialized care. His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani officially inaugurated the Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center along with Minister of Public Health Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari. Many other senior health officials were also present at the opening ceremony.

HE the Prime Minister opened the Al Maha Center and also toured the facilities various units to get an overview about its services available to patients and their families.
HE Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari stated, “The Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center offers expert long-term and acute care for children with special needs. This unique center, the first of its kind in the region, is an ideal facility designed to create a home-like environment aimed at promoting a better quality of life for children with long-term care needs. The Center reflects the achievement of one of our National Health Strategy’s key goal.”
The Al Maha Pediatric Care Unit is a 105-bed facility with six in-patient units. Out of these 69 are private rooms and there are 13 outpatient clinic rooms too. Spread over 20,000 sq.m of floor space, the center is located within the Al Wakra Hospital Campus, providing quicker access to the main general hospital if needed. The venue has also won the European Healthcare Design Award and a World Architecture Award for its beautiful design including recreational and family areas alongside gardens.
The venue serves the purpose of catering to the patients’ medical needs, including medical, diagnostic, and therapy services. Equipped with a state-of-the-art multi-level hydrotherapy pool, music and art therapy rooms, virtual reality treatment, and many other therapies targeted for child-specific needs, the entire Center is a step toward more specialized care for pediatric patients. The move is evident in showcasing Qatar’s commitment to improving pediatric care and also catering to children with special needs.
