Hamad International Airport tops AirHelp’s list of world’s best airports
Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) topped AirHelp’s list of the ‘World’s Best Airports 2024,’ which ranked 239 airports across 69 countries.
AirHelp, a data tech company that helps passengers with compensation, scored HIA 8.52pts as it finished on top. South Africa’s Cape Town Airport (8.50) and Japan’s Nagoya Chuba Airport (8.49) finished in second and third places respectively.
HIA, which was ranked fifth last year, scored 8.3pts for on-time performance, 8.7 in customer opinion, and 8.9 for the variety of food and shops it has.
Hamad Airport was among the most-loved airports for its service, facilities, and cleanliness.
While on-time performance contributed to 60% of the score, customer opinion based on various parameters constituted the remaining 40% score.
The airports were ranked using extensive real-world data, from May 2023 to April 2024, combining it with insights from over 17,000 unique ratings from passengers.
This year, AirHelp added ‘size’ category to the score — with airports being categorised by the number of flights it handled during the year. HIA finished second, handling between 100,000 to 250,000 flights.
Other major airports that did not feature prominently in AirHelp’s list included Singapore’s Changi Airport (24th, 77% flights on time) and the Dubai International Airport (64th, 72% flights on time).
While London’s Gatwick ranked 237 with 6.53 points, Greece’s Heraklion Airport (6.51) and Tunis Carthage Airport (5.35) were the last in the list.
