Here’s where Qatar-based travelers preferred going to last summer…
Summer is the favourite travel season for many people in Qatar, with lots of citizens and residents choosing to spend the hot months exploring the world or visiting their loved ones overseas.
With a remarkably high demand for outbound travel every summer, you might ask where the people of Qatar preferred spending their holidays last summer.
According to a report by the Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), Europe was the most preferred summer destination for its travel policyholders in summer 2024. While 66% of them are planning to visit at least one European country, it is followed by Asia (20%) and North America (10%).
Based on travel insurance purchasing behaviour for the months of June, July, and August 2024, QIC’s report revealed that the Schengen area was the preferred destination for travellers last summer, with over 60% of those who insured their summer trips to Europe eyeing at least one of the 29 Schengen countries.
France topped the list of the most sought-after Schengen destinations by QIC travel policyholders, followed by Germany, Greece, Spain, and Italy.
Outside the Schengen zone, Georgia was the overall preferred European destination, as 25% of those who insured their summer break in Europe chose the country, followed by The UK, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, and Serbia.
In Asia, Türkiye continued to be the summer destination of choice for QIC-insured travellers last summer. Thailand came in second among Asian destinations, followed by Indonesia, Azerbaijan, and the Philippines. Other popular destinations included the UAE, Japan, and Malaysia.
In Africa, South Africa was the preferred destination of QIC-insured travellers (over 30% of those who got travel insurance covering Africa), followed by Morocco (15%), and Egypt (12%).
More than 50% of Qatar-based travelers who planned on visiting North America last summer with a QIC travel insurance considered USA, while 30% chose Canada. In South America, Brazil was the favourite summer destination for the surveyed travellers, followed by Columbia, Argentina, and Chile respectively.
