HH The Amir attends 18th Consultative Meeting of GCC and Central Asia Summit in Jeddah
HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, along with his brothers Their Majesties and Highnesses leaders of GCC countries and heads of delegations, attended the 18th Consultative Meeting of leaders and representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.
In addition to Sheikh Tamim, Kuwaiti Crown Prince HH Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah; UAE Vice President HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, representatives of Oman and Bahrain’s rulers Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said and Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the GCC-Central Asia Summit.

The five Central Asian countries were represented by their respective presidents — Shavkat Mirziyoyev (Uzbekistan), Emomali Rahmon (Tajikistan), Serdar Berdimuhamedow (Turkmenistan), Kassym-Jomart Tokayev (Kazakhstan) and Sadyr Japarov (Kyrgyzstan).
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and members of the delegation of HH The Amir also attended the consultative meeting and summit, held at the King Abdullah International Conference Center in Jeddah.

GCC and Central Asian countries further strengthened their political, security and economic ties on Wednesday during the summit.
At the meeting, a Joint Action Plan for Strategic Dialogue and Cooperation between GCC members and Central Asian states, covering the years 2023 to 2027, was approved.
The leaders of the two blocs, in a joint statement at the end of the summit, stressed the importance of strengthening political and strategic relations at the collective and bilateral levels.
They also agreed to continue to work to achieve regional and international security and stability, confront challenges and work to ensure flexibility in fields ranging from supply chains to food security.

The group also expressed its concern about the growing rhetoric of racism and Islamophobia, and acts of violence against Muslim minorities and Islamic symbols.
“The action plan with Central Asia includes activating cooperation in various fields. We’re working on consolidating what’s been agreed upon, and building consultation and coordination mechanisms with Central Asia,” said GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.

Countries in the GCC, with their abundance of oil and gas, and nations in Central Asia, which enjoys a young and growing workforce, have deepened their economic ties in recent years. Having complementary economies, there are also plenty of opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.
