HH The Amir to chair Qatar’s delegation to Arab Summit in Cairo today

HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will chair Qatar’s delegation to the extraordinary Arab Summit, scheduled to be held in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Tuesday.
Sheikh Tamim will be accompanied by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, along with an official delegation.
The Arab League members will be meeting to counter US President Donald Trump’s threats to take over Gaza, expelling Palestinians from their land, and the Israeli prime minister’s willingness to destroy the ceasefire and resume a genocidal war on Gaza.
The summit, convened by Egypt, is expected to come up with a united Arab response that offers an alternative that respects Palestinians’ rights and makes Gaza habitable again.
On February 5, Trump said he wanted to ‘take over’ Gaza, resettle Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan, and implement a ‘redevelopment plan’ that would turn the enclave into ‘the Riviera of the Middle East.’
On February 21, Egypt, Jordan, and the six GCC countries gathered in Riyadh to prepare the agenda for Tuesday’s summit in Cairo.
Experts say the difficulty with Egypt’s plan of rebuilding Gaza lies in financing it, with the UN saying more than $50bn would be needed. This is also expected to be addressed at the Summit.
