HH The Amir completes Bangladesh visit, leaves for Nepal
HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani completed his visit to Bangladesh and left Dhaka on Tuesday. He is heading to the capital city of Nepal — Kathmandu — for the final stop of his Asian tour.
HH The Amir was seen off at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Bangladesh’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Hasan Mahmud, Minister of State for Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu and Bangladeh’s Ambassador to Qatar Muhammad Nazrul Islam.
Earlier, Sheikh Tamim held a meeting with Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the Bangabhabhan Presidential Palace in Dhaka.
HH The Amir expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Bangladeshi leader for his warm reception and generous hospitality, expressing the aspiration to develop bilateral relations in all fields for the benefit of the two friendly countries.
During the meeting, cooperation relations between the two nations and aspects of strengthening and improving them in various fields were reviewed. Views were also exchanged about a number of regional and international developments.
HH The Amir also met with Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina Wajed, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and they witnessed the signing ceremony of several agreements, memorandums of understanding (MoUs), and cooperation between the governments of both countries.
The two nations signed an agreement on mutual encouragement and protection of investments, MoUs on cooperation in the field of diplomatic training between the Diplomatic Institute of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bangladesh’s Foreign Service Academy, cooperation in education, higher education and scientific research, sports and youth, an agreement for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, and an agreement in the legal field.
They also witnessed the signing of an MoU on cooperation in the field of labor, a maritime transport agreement, an MoU on cooperation in the field of ports, and an agreement to establish a joint Qatar-Bangladesh Business Council.
Sheikh Tamim expressed his appreciation for the role of the Bangladeshi community residing in Qatar and its effective contribution in several development areas in the country.
The sessions were attended by Head of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and several other top officials.
On Bangladesh’s side, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Muhammad Faruk Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, State Minister for Finance Waseqa Ayesha Khan, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury, and State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu, along with several other top officials attended the meetings.
Yesterday, Nepal had announced a public holiday in the country on Wednesday, to honour the visit of His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim.
