HH The Amir participates in SCO Summit, meets with world leaders
HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani took part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, held in the Kazakh capital of Astana, under the theme ‘Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue — Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development.’
Several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres took part in the summit.
Sheikh Tamim underlined the high importance Qatar places on the SCO and the friendly nation of Kazakhstan.
“During my visit to Kazakhstan, I discussed with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev all files related to the strategic relations between the two countries. We are keen to consolidate the co-operation that achieves the common interests and aspirations of the two friendly countries,” wrote Sheikh Tamim on his official account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I also participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. We attach special importance to it as it enhances cooperation with other countries on the continent in a way that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of the region and the world,” he added.
Sheikh Tamim met with Russian President Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. The two leaders discussed the cordial relationship between the nations and ways of enhancing them further.
The leaders also exchanged their views about topics of mutual interest, especially the developments in Gaza and occupied Palestinian territories.
Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad Sherida Al Kaabi and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi attended the meeting.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Presidential Foreign Policy Advisor Yuri Ushakov and a number of senior officials also attended.
Sheikh Tamim also met with Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the Summit. The two leaders discussed the strategic bilateral cooperation between Qatar and Turkiye and ways of enhancing them.
In addition to top Qatari officials, Turkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Finance Mehmet Simsek and Minister of Trade Omer Bolat attended the meeting.
