HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for talks in the Iranian capital of Tehran, during his state visit on Wednesday.

The two leaders also issued a joint statement during the occasion.

“It’s my pleasure to visit Iran at a time when the region is witnessing a lot of challenges and developments that necessitate coordination,” Sheikh Tamim was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera.

Pezeshkian said the countries had strong relations, and hold ‘similar viewpoints regarding the region and international issues.’

The two leaders discussed ‘the unity of the Syrian territories and the participation of all categories in Syria to determine their future.’

Pezeshkian said his country thanked Qatar for its mediation efforts in securing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza after 15 months of Israel’s war there.

HH The Amir said the talks focused on the Palestinian issue, necessity of adhering to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, commitment of all parties to implementing the phases of the agreement, and the importance of ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

He emphasized Qatar’s commitment, along with its mediation partners, to ensuring the success of the agreement, which represents a key step toward a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring unhindered access to humanitarian aid, putting an end to civilians’ suffering, paving the way for reconstruction, and working toward a fair and comprehensive settlement.

He said that the Palestinian people, who have made sacrifices over the past many decades, would accept nothing less.

The leaders also discussed expanding economic ties.

“We confirmed the necessity of exploring more chances in the field of the economy and trade between our two countries,” Sheikh Tamim was quoted as saying.
