The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani presided over the inauguration of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) 2022 yesterday. The seventh edition of the three-day event kickstarted on March 21 at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) and will continue until March 23. The theme for 2022 is ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community’.

Also in attendance were other dignitaries: the Prime Minister H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Chief of Staff from other countries, ambassadors, and senior members of the Qatari Armed Forces. The Amir also received their Excellencies the defence ministers and chiefs of staff from brotherly nations and friendly participating countries.

The inauguration was followed by the Amir touring the exhibition and receiving the briefs regarding various advancements in technologies of naval, defense, and maritime systems. Briefs were also presented on the different communication systems, radars, and other services that were on display by more than 200 regional and international countries.

Earlier last month, a diplomat briefing session was held by the organizing committee of DIMDEX 2022 at Sharq Village & Spa, to discuss the key event updates and overview of this exhibition. It was anticipated then that this year’s event was touted to be high on participation from several countries and companies.

The new edition of DIMDEX 2022, running from March 21–23 is showcasing equipment by Barzan company and several other local and international companies involved in maritime and security defense equipment manufacturers. The Qatari Emiri Naval Forces and Qatar Command and Control Centers also set up their exhibits.

The four main components of the exhibition include a display of new and future technologies; a conference for Middle East Naval Commanders; a display of visiting warships at Hamad Port; and a networking opportunity with over 80 VIP delegations from around the world. The framework of the event has been designed to strengthen Qatar’s defence and security capacities along with those of its sisterly nations. The aim is to combat terrorism and secure maritime borders, along with addressing future challenges.
