
HH Amir Sheikh Tamim inaugurates the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant

On October 18, His Highness Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant Project in Al Kharsaah. The 800 MW Solar PV IPP Project is the first of Qatar’s utility-scale solar power plant and has been in the pipeline since the last couple of months.
The inauguration ceremony also depicted a documentary film about the plant’s prominent features, including its 10 sq.km cover as well as the inclusion of nearly 1,800,000 solar panels. The power plant’s progression in phases as well as its intention to cater to the 10% of the country’s peak power demand was also showcased. The plant employs the use of robots to enhance its efficiency.
HH the Amir also toured the solar power plant’s control room and other important aspects of the facility. The ceremony was also attended by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, and various other Sheikhs and HE Ministers, senior company officials and international company delegates.
Al Kharsaah Power Plant is a step in the right direction with Qatar’s initiative to create more green energy. The plant, located 80 km west of Doha is jointly operated by TotalEnergies and Marubeni (40% share) and Siraj Energy (60% share—Qatar Energy and Qatar Electricity and Water Co.)
