HH Amir Sheikh Tamim tops ‘World’s Most Influential Muslim’ list

Jordan-based website The Muslim 500 has named Qatar’s Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani as the most influential Muslim. The report annually lists out the top 50 most influential Muslim personalities, and this year is topped by Qatar’s Amir.
HH Sheikh Tamim is followed by King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz-al-Saud of Saudi Arabia and Ayatollah Khamenei of Iran at number two and three. Turkish President, Tayyip Erdoğan, who ranked first on the list last year, came fourth this year.
Talking about his influence, the website quotes that he is the ruler of Qatar, which is the richest country per capita in the world. The report also lists the various achievements of the Amir and his tact in dealing with political, economic, and national issues.
HH Amir Tamim became the Amir in June 2013, after being named the Crown Prince from 2003-2013. It was under his supervision that Qatar won the bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The report also listed how the Amir dealt with strained political relationships and a blockade from other GCC nations (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Egypt), and was able to get through this with little to no impact. He has also ensured Qatar played peace brokering between the Taliban government and Iran, alongside facilitating peaceful dialogue with neighboring regional nations.
During the global pandemic, Qatar has also been extremely proactive with its advanced healthcare, stringent safety protocols, and precautionary measures. More than 80% of the population has been vaccinated in Qatar owing to the level of protocols followed for COVID-19.
Under the stewardship, Qatar is all set to attract international football enthusiasts by hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 from November 21 to December 18. The country has nearly reinvented itself in the past decade with a spending of more than $200 billion on construction projects including twelve stadiums, a new port, advanced transportation systems, accommodation, and entertainment options to host nearly 400,000 fans. Additionally, HH Amir has also successfully defended Qatar from global criticism of the plight of laborers by removing the kafala system and establishing a minimum wage.
HH Amir Sheikh Tamim has also been confident that once the Westerners witness Qatar’s hospitality and infrastructural growth later this year, it will certainly bridge the gap between the country and other cultures.
