HMC’s Ambulance Service geared up for FIFA 2022

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is swiftly readying itself for its Ambulance Service in the months leading up to FIFA World Cup 2022. They have done this by drawing on their experience from the Fifa Arab Cup 2021.
Ali Darwish, the Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service stated that the Arab Cup was a major sporting event for Qatar and the number of spectators and stadiums during that time gave a good insight into what to expect for FIFA 2022. The service operated with a specific structural plan of control and command for each stadium.
Each stadium was deployed with a manager, a senior operations supervisor, an operations officer, a logistics supervisor, paramedics, and a senior consultant for clinical care—all as a part of the Ambulance Service set-up by HMC. The stadium manager relayed all information to the National Command Center.
As a part of their emergency response section, Ambulance Services provides pre-hospital admission medical care and transportation for people in a potentially life-threatening incident. Their range of other services also includes a Mobile Healthcare Service, Patient Transport Service, and a Referral and Booking Management System. Their response time is 10 minutes for emergency calls within Doha and 15 minutes for those outside Doha.
The Ambulance Service also assisted in cases relating to Covid-19 patients and vaccination services. Ali Darwish quoted that between January 2021 and November 2021, the service attended 352,785 cases that included 245,610 emergency calls and 107,175 patient transfers.
The entire service and their efficiency were commended by the FIFA Committee especially after they proved themselves capable enough to handle more than a single event at a time, with the simultaneous Qatar National Day celebrations.
