The 111th session of the prestigious International Labor Conference (ILC), held under the presidency of Qatar’s Minister of Labor HE Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, concluded in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday.

The ILC, during its closing session, adopted the recommendation of equal apprenticeship and the report of the Permanent Workers Protection Committee. ILC President Dr Al Marri and International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo signed the memorandum of approval.

Addressing the closing session, Dr Al Marri emphasized the ILC’s unique role as a platform facilitating dialogue and collective action among governments and social partners, aimed at addressing current work-related issues.

Acceptance of the equal apprenticeship recommendation is considered a significant milestone in ILO's journey. The broadly-embraced recommendation directly enhances working conditions around the world and stimulates the creation of decent job opportunities.

"The discussions carried out by the Committee on Apprenticeships embodied the power of social dialogue and achieved remarkable results through negotiations characterized by vitality, cooperation and exchange of experiences,” said Dr Al Marri.

Promotion of quality apprenticeship has been gaining importance in recent times as it addresses the challenges brought about by the evolving workforce.

By offering individuals of all ages the opportunity to enhance skills, apprenticeship fosters social justice. Since 1975, it fills a normative gap and offers valuable guidance to Member States to develop effective policies, laws, and regulations promoting high-quality apprenticeships.

The 111th session also approved a report from the Permanent Workers' Protection Committee, marking it as the conference's most significant output. The report underscores the critical role of worker protection in promoting gender equality and social justice.

It emphasized the necessity of labor protection in achieving gender parity and social justice, reducing inequalities while aiding in the growth of sustainable enterprises, productivity gains, and economic development.

The report discussed various dimensions of labor protection such as wages, working hours, occupational safety and health, maternity protection, data privacy for workers, among others.

I am fighting to recover QR8000 from Jascon Engineering. I have been fighting it out with them for NINE years now. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zahid Khan is an absolutely dishonest person. He cannot honor his own written commitment.
