Match For Hope raises QAR32.3m for Education Above All initiatives
The Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Doha was a beehive of activities on Friday as former football greats and social media influencers came together to play a ‘Match For Hope’ to raise money for the Education Above All (EAA) initiatives.
The game, which Team Chunkz won by defeating Team AboFlah 7-5, created history by raising QAR32,301,625 ($8,849,760) in a single evening.
The match, jointly organised by Q Life — a cultural platform under Qatar’s International Media Office — EAA and the Qatar Football Association, was a sold-out affair.
The money raised from the game will be used to support various EAA initiatives across six countries — Mali, Pakistan, Palestine, Rwanda, Sudan, and Tanzania.
The Middle East and North Africa region’s two most-followed content creators — AboFlah and Chunkz — led the two teams which also featured football icons like Kaka, Roberto Carlos, Eden Hazard, Didier Drogba, David Villa, and Claude Makelele.
The charity match was a treat not only for the thousands who flowed into the stadium, but also for the millions who tuned into it across social media platforms, YouTube, Al Kass and beIN SPORTS channels.
Attendees also got to enjoy various entertainment shows and activities for all ages including live stage shows, dance performances, DJ mix and a concert.
Both Chunkz and AboFlah are popular for their philanthropic endeavours and unwavering commitment to supporting meaningful causes.
‘Match for Hope’ served as proof of the enduring legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, hosted for the first time in the Middle East and Arab world.
