MIA Park Hills to host the 2023 Qatar Kite Festival from March 16

The 2023 Qatar Kite Festival is all set to enthral fans from March 16 to 18 at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park Hills.
The event, which will be held adjacent to the ‘7’ sculpture by Richard Serra, will provide excellent panoramic views of the West Bay, Doha’s coastline, and surrounding landscapes.
Teams from France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and the US will fly a dazzling set of uniquely designed kites, with their magnificent little LED lights lighting up Doha’s night skies.
The event will also feature fun activities for children, like an inflatable games area (adjacent to the MIA entrance), and two kite-building workshops (in front of Al Riwaq gallery and on the alley of MIA Park Hills).
The 2023 Qatar Kite Festival is jointly hosted by Safe Flight Solutions, organisers of the Qatar Balloon Festival Series, and asfary.com.
Seasoned kite-flying professional Iqbal Husain will lead the workshops. The Pakistani national, who by age five learnt how to build fighter kites, now crafts traditional kites made from bamboo and recycled Japanese washi paper.
Children will learn how to use eco-friendly paper and biodegradable materials to draw, build, and paint their own kites. Once finished, they can watch the kites being flown by professionals.
The show will be held from 3pm to 9pm on March 16, 2pm to 9pm on March 17 and 11am to 9pm on March 18.
Qatar has hosted Balloon and Kite festivals in the past as well.
Qatar Tourism had announced a slew of entertainment events for 2023, including the Qatar Balloon Festival and the GKA Kitesurfing Tournament.
After a tough fight, winners of the GKA Kitesurfing Tournament had been crowned at the Fuwairit Kite Beach.
Earlier, the Aspire International Kite Festival had wowed visitors in 2019 while the Korean Kite event at the Museum of Islamic Art Park was also a huge draw.
