Ministry classifies nurseries, decides on staff requirements and licensing fees
Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has made several ministerial decisions in an effort to ensure the efficiency of nurseries and develop and improve their service levels.
The Ministry decided to classify the types of nurseries, the qualifications and experience required for its workers, the conditions and controls that must be available at nursery headquarters, and determine the fees for establishing and renewing nurseries’ licensing.
“The new decisions are in line with the Ministry’s strategic vision and objectives aimed at improving services provided to children at such an important stage of their lives. We want to ensure the quality of nurseries, provide the appropriate environment to prepare children educationally and psychologically, and increase family awareness of the importance of education from an early age,” said Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs Omar Al Naama.
The ministry has classified nurseries into three types: Daycare, Care and Education, and Specialized.
While Daycare nurseries specialize in meeting the needs of working parents, Care and Education nurseries provide daycare services and teach children basic skills such as language, reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Specialized nurseries provide daycare and education services for children with disabilities and learning difficulties. They implement special programs that develop their abilities and enhance their growth using modern tools and methodologies.
In addition, the experiences and qualifications required by nursery workers have also been identified, reflecting the Ministry’s keenness to provide specialized cadres in the educational and teaching fields.
The decisions included the conditions and controls nursery premises should meet to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for children.
Nurseries must adhere to all safety procedures and standards in order to enhance children’s well-being and develop their physical, psychological, and social abilities.
The fees for issuing and renewing nursery licenses have been set at AQR1,000. The Ministry said nurseries will be given six months to regularise their conditions and work in accordance with the provisions contained therein.
These decisions aim to increase the capacity of nurseries, kindergartens and daycare centers, stimulate the private sector, as well as improve levels of care and learning outcomes in line with the objectives of the country’s third national development strategy.
