Ministry of Education reduces school transportation fees by 78%
Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi issued Ministerial Resolution No. (20) for 2023 that determines the price of textbooks and transportation fares for public school students in Qatar who are non-Qatari citizens and not citizens of the Gulf Corporation Countries (GCC)
As per the new ruling, starting from the current academic year 2023/2024, the transportation fee will be fixed at QAR 220 for each student per semester if he or she uses public school transportation. It was further stated that under the new ruling, children of imams and muezzins affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, will be exempted from the price of text books and school transportation fees.
In a statement released yesterday, the Ministry said that the 78% reduction in school transportation fees was made in order to reduce the financial burden on parents.
Under the new resolution, the Ministry also stated that the price of textbooks will be fixed at QAR 150 for each student per semester adding that children of Qatari women and people with disabilities will be exempt from the price of text books and transportation fares.
The Ministry noted that the reduction in transportation fees from QAR 1000 to QAR 220 per student for one semester is in line with its vision in providing quality education for all. The new ruling, the Ministry added was a reflection of its keenness to continue supporting students and their families in their educational journey.
