Ministry of Labour launches e-service package for work permits
The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has introduced a new package of e-services pertaining to work permits in Qatar, in alignment with its plan to digitize services and introduce a paperless way of processing. The move aims to achieve better streamlining and accelerating the procedures and achieving excellence.

The six requests covered by the new services are for work permits, work permit renewals, work permit cancellations, labor recruitment approval issuance, extension of labor recruitment approval validity, and amendment of labor recruitment approval. The said work permit-related e-services are intended for individuals under family sponsorship currently residing in Qatar, GCC country citizens, investors and permanent resident holders.
The terms for availing work permit application services and labor recruitment approvals have been outlined by MoL. Both these categories allow users to submit application approval as well as renewal service requests for both permit and labor recruitment. Requests for renewal or work permits and labor recruitment approvals can also be submitted.
A work permit can be renewed if the resident permit has a validity of not less than three months and there is a certificate of academic qualification. The employer’s residence details, a good conduct certificate and a certificate of practising professions is also required for submission. For professions that requires a certificate of practising (engineering, medical, etc), the said document is required along with a letter of approval from Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) for work relating to schools and kindergarten.
In terms of the e-service relating to approval of worker recruitment, establishments can submit a request to the Ministry, at whose discretion the request is reviewed and decided. Once approved, the request then moves to the nationalities selection system, after which the said approval request is transferred to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Establishments also have the option of amending the approval of the recruitment of workers digitally. To do this, the condition is that the approval belongs to the establishment and the establishment’s registration is active, without having violated the provisions of the Labour Law. In addition to this, the approval has to be effective and not all recruitment approvals should have been used. The number provided in the original approval is not to be exceeded.
Establishments can submit a request for renewing or cancelling a work license and labor recruitment approvals digitally, without having to visit the Ministry’s headquarters, external offices, or government complexes. This falls in tandem with the Ministry of Labour’s effort to digitally transform a plethora of e-services.
