Ministry of Public Health issues Hajj vaccination requirements
Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health on Tuesday issued guidelines about mandatory and recommended vaccines pilgrims should take before they undertake the journey to Saudi Arabia for Hajj.
The Ministry said every individual — above the age of one — travelling for the pilgrimage should compulsorily take Conjugate quadrivalent (ACWY) vaccine against meningococcal meningitis. Pilgrims aged between six and 12 months should be administered the vaccine in two doses, taken two months apart.
The Ministry also recommended vaccines for seasonal influenza, pneumococcal vaccine, and that for Covid-19.
While influenza vaccine is advised for everyone aged six months and above, pneumococcal vaccines are for senior citizens above the age of 65. It is also recommended for other high-risk individuals with chronic conditions like diabetes, sickle cell anemia, renal failure, chronic respiratory or splenctomy, cardiovascular disease, heavy smokers or immunocompromised persons.
It added that Covid-19 vaccine is advised for all individuals aged 12 years and above.
