
MME announces ban on fishing of Kingfish in Qatar

Represented by the Fisheries Department, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has announced the ban on fishing for Kingfish in the State of Qatar from August 15 till October 15 this year.
The announcement was made by MME via its Twitter account with the aim of preserving the Kingfish species due to its significant economic value.

According to MME, achieving sustainability of the Kingfish stock and protecting the fish by introducing the legal size allowed for fishing Kingfish are the two main objectives of the King Mackerel fishing regulation.
The Ministry highlighted that the use of nets is prohibited during the ban period, whereas hooks and hand lines are allowed.
A fine of no less than two thousand Qatari Riyals can be issued upon violating the regulation and the fine amount can go up to ten thousand Qatari Riyals.
Furthermore, transporting and handling Kingfish nets in fishing vessels during the ban period is prohibited.
