MoI launches vehicle registration portal for GCC fans

In preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Qatari Ministry of the Interior (MoI) has launched an online vehicle pre-registration platform to facilitate the issuance of entry permits for GCC citizens and residents driving to Qatar.
MoI had earlier announced the issuance of Hayya card for non-match ticketholders to be able to enter Qatar starting December 2, and removed the requirement of Hayya card altogether for GCC nationals and residents from December 6. GCC nationals and residents driving their own vehicles will now be allowed entry to the country.
Executive Director of the Office of the Commander of Security Operations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Col. Jassim Al BuHashem Al Sayed, outlined the entry procedures for citizens and residents of the GCC into Qatar via the state's air, land, and sea ports.
He made the announcement yesterday at a press conference held at the Officers Club of the General Directorate of Civil Defence by the security authorities, on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and the Safety and Security Operation Committee of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Al Sayed stated that road travelers are required to provide basic information such as their country of origin, vehicle type, model, license plate number, and other pertinent information on the platform.
A number of passengers, he said, must be entered into the system, so he said they are necessary. If necessary, they have the option to update the provided information.
He added that the applicants must also finish the vehicle insurance procedures by following some very simple steps like filling out an insurance policy form and paying insurance fees.
To avoid having to pay vehicle pre-entry fees, Al Sayed explains, "they will be required to apply for the permit via the Ministry of Interior website at least 12 hours before the date of travel."
In response to questions about entering Qatar by bus, he assured people that the bus service would continue to operate normally, and that visitors would be provided with free parking spaces.
He also mentioned that beginning on December 6, 2022, citizens and residents of the GCC who travel to Qatar by air will be able to enter the country without having to register in advance using the Hayya platform.
Al Sayed explained that these actions are part of the state's broader effort to welcome tourists from the GCC countries to participate in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and its associated activities and entertainment events.
