More public parks are coming to Qatar soon

Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of Public Parks Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality, said they were gearing up to open more public parks in different municipalities in the country, eventually taking the number to 160.
Al Sada said Qatar currently has 122 public parks, across different municipalities, with a total area of 2.6 million square meters. The total number of parks, squares, and corniches stands at 151, with a total area of 3.19 million square meters.
“Public parks are witnessing large turnouts during the holy month of Ramadan, thanks to the cool weather. It has encouraged families and individuals of various nationalities to make them a prime destination for recreation, entertainment, and a break from the daily routine,” said Al Sada.
“Many families choose public parks to break their fast during Maghreb time, given the comprehensive facilities offered by these parks, including seating areas, prayer rooms, restrooms, and areas designated for sports activities and children’s games,” he added.
The efforts of the parks’ supervisory teams in maintaining cleanliness and security have also led to a significant increase in the number of visitors to parks.
Al Sada said the public was highly satisfied with the services provided and no notable complaints had been recorded.
He added that work teams in public parks have been reinforced, particularly in large central parks. A follow-up programme has been developed in coordination with municipalities to ensure the presence of security and cleaning teams up to 1am during the holy month.
As for the sustainability strategy for park management, Al Sada said the Ministry of Municipality seeks to develop new parks according to environmental sustainability standards.
This includes the use of local plants that consume less water, enhancing irrigation systems with treated wastewater, and providing an integrated infrastructure that includes walking paths and shaded seating areas.
